FOR WOMEN’S RIGHT TO LIVE VIGIL TO HONOR GUATEMALA’S MURDERED WOMEN
Please join us December 8 at 1:00 pm outside the Embassy of Guatemala for a vigil to honor the murdered women of Guatemala and to express our support for their relatives. In a petition addressed to the Embassy, we will urge the Government of Guatemala to act in the face of the epidemic.
In the last six years, over 2,500 women have been murdered in Guatemala, many of them brutally tortured beforehand. This year the murders have continued to rise at alarming rates, with over 400 women murdered so far. Of the cases reported in the first eight months of this year, only a few are under investigation. Family members, women's organizations, and justice officials working on these cases continue to do so under threat.
Please join us in our efforts to halt this violence and support those working to resolve the murders.
December 8, 2006 1:00 pm Embassy of Guatemala 2220 R St. NW Washington D.C.
A few blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro Station on the Red Line.
